Shookstown Road Widening,
City of Frederick
This summer the City of Frederick announced the notice to proceed for construction on the Shookstown Road Widening project. SWA has lead the efforts of this project as the prime consultant for the past four years. SWA’s Civil & Highway Engineering group provided the highway design services for the City of Frederick from the conceptual to the preparation of the construction bid documents including plans, specifications, and estimate. This project includes the design of approximately 1400 linear feet of roadway reconstruction and widening from two lanes to a four lanes 40 ft. wide roadway, closed section with sidewalk on the south side of Shookstown road . The limits of the project are just west of Willowdale Drive to the boundary of Lake Coventry Subdivision. SWA’S role was to develop Shookstown Road horizontal/vertical alignments, maintenance of traffic control plans, roadway x-sections, prepare right of way lines, investigate utility impacts, prepare signing and pavement marking plans, prepare demolition plans, grading plans, evaluate existing w-beam traffic barriers, special provisions, quantities and estimate, and coordinate with City staff as as the Soil Conservation staff. SWA was assisted by a subconsultant Endesco Inc. to prepare storm drain, erosion and sediment control plans, and the Stormwater Management (SWM) report. In addition to all the above design services, SWA assisted the City by reviewing all the bid documents submitted by each contractor and prepared recommendations and findings. SWA is also currently assisting the City of Frederick providing design support during construction which might last until the end of this year.
Many thanks to all who had worked on this project and made it a very successful design accomplishment.
